Dallas Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland Dead at 24 — Cause of Death Confirmed

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has died at age 24, the team confirmed Thursday.

Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family,” the Cowboys said in a statement.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kneeland died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police pursuit.

Authorities said troopers tried to stop his vehicle on the Dallas North Tollway, but he fled.

The car was later found crashed and abandoned; Kneeland was discovered deceased nearby in a portable toilet, police confirmed.

His agent, Jonathan Perzley, said he was “shattered” by the loss of his client and close friend.

The tragedy occurred just two days after Kneeland’s standout Monday Night Football performance, when he recovered a blocked punt and scored a touchdown.

Born October 17, 2000, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kneeland played at Western Michigan University, earning recognition as one of the Mid-American Conference’s top defenders before joining the Cowboys.
