According to the account, people in the Rio Grande Valley noticed an unusually large silhouette passing above familiar neighborhoods and farmland. Some compared it to an enormous eagle; others were struck by its broad, outstretched wings. The encounter was brief, and attempts to photograph the animal produced no convincing detail. What remained was a vivid impression of something extraordinary, but not the information needed to identify a species or establish its actual size.
That distinction matters. Without a reliable estimate of distance or altitude, judging a bird’s dimensions against an open sky is notoriously difficult. Bright sunlight can obscure identifying features, while a close overhead view can make familiar wildlife appear startlingly unfamiliar. An ordinary large bird remains a plausible explanation, though the account cannot settle the question. The lasting mystery is not proof of an unknown creature, but the gap between an unforgettable glimpse and what anyone can confidently verify.
